SUV crash on I-75 causes bigger collision involving tractor-trailer, dump truck, motorcycle and cars – WTSP.com

All southbound lanes were temporarily shut down, and traffic was diverted by authorities.

BRANDON, Fla. — An SUV crashed into a utility truck in the inside shoulder of I-75 southbound a little before 9:20 a.m. Friday in Brandon.

Florida Highway Patrol says the TransCore truck was parked on the shoulder, south of SR-574, while the utility driver changed a tire.

“For unknown reason, a passing SUV entered the inside shoulder and collided with the TransCore vehicle,” an FHP spokesperson wrote in an email. “The initial collision caused a tractor trailer, dump truck, motorcycle, and two other passenger vehicles to collide and come to rest in the travel lanes, as well as both shoulders of the highway.”

Luckily, investigators say the injuries sustained by those involved are “not life-threatening.” Emergency crews temporarily shut down all southbound lanes and diverted traffic onto SR-574. Most lanes have since reopened.
